Microsoft IntelliMouse

I recently bought a Microsoft wireless IntelliMouse, which I am using
on a WIN/XP system. I have set the wheel button to double-click, but
it only works intermittently. It is not that it works for some
applications and not for others - it's completely unpredictable.
Double-clicking the left button always works. I exchanged the mouse
for another specimen and the same happens. Didn't have this problem
with a Logitech mouse. Any Ideas?
