Microsoft installer

I believe my windows installer (msiexec.exe) is corrupt. I cannot install or
uninstall some programs. Does anyone know how to correct the file? Icannot
find the file on Microsoft's website. I am using SP1 and I see a file made
for SP2. I tried SP2 with pretty bad results and do not want to reinstall it
on my system.

I don't know you but you just saved me from countless hours of hair pulling.
Just in case anyone else has this problem I'll discuss what happened. I was
given the responibilty of maintaining my wives school computer lab. (I'm
good with my computer but not 25 networked together). We have a Client
license for XP Office Pro, the other day a few of the computers updated
themselves and Office had to be re-activated ( I thought, wrongly I guess,
that Client Licenses didn't need to have this done). Anyway, when I tried to
reactivate it just wouldn't, I got no error,no message, nothing. After many
tries, i figured I would reinstall, when I tried that I got the Install
Error message that Windows Installer could not be activated. After tries to
fix that, I found this fix and alas I had no need to reinstall becasue the
fix made it possible for Office to reactive when I attempted it again.
Sorry for the long winded reply, but thanks again.
