Microsoft Frontpage?

C

Charliec

I'm currently using Frontpage v2002 and know there is a v2003 for sale
by Microsoft. I'm wondering if Microsoft has discontinued development
of Frontpage (2003 is basically 5 years old). If they have, is there
a Microsoft replacement for creating and publishing web pages?

Thanks for any insights.

Yes, FrontPage 2003 was the last version of FrontPage and MS is not
producing new copies. It has been replaced by two products actually and the
choice of which one depends upon your focus. If you used a lot of the
SharePoint server features of FP 2002, then you would go with Microsoft
SharePoint Designer. Otherwise, the product you would want would be
Microsoft Expression Web
(http://www.microsoft.com/expression/products/overview.aspx?key=web) You can
get an upgrade to Expression Web from any previous version of FP for about
$90 (Amazon sells it for about that). Expression Web and SharePoint Designer
both look very similar, except SharePoint Desinger has the extra features
for developing SharePoint sites.

Can you import FP2002 created web pages into Microsoft Expression Web?

In addition to what the others have said; you don't actually *import* your
FP web, you just open it with EW. Make a backup first...but I've never had a
problem even switching back and forth editing webs between FP / EW.

Mark,
Do you have to install other software to get Expression Web to
install? The current layout of Microsoft's website is very confusing
and the most simplest of things are hard to find.

Rob,

See my comments (and questions below):

Yes;

"You will need a Windows Live ID to download this Trial. If you do not have
a Windows Live ID, please visit Windows Live and create one before you
download the trial software.

I purchase the upgrade Expression Web package on CD. Will it contain
all the necessary items to install properly (i.e. Microsoft.Net
Framework 2.0?)
1.. Install Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 (see below) before installing
Expression Web.
Will it be on the CD
2.. Uninstall all Microsoft Office 2007 beta programs before installing
Expression Web Trial.
I don't have MS Office 2007 Beta - I have MS Office 2007 Small
Business
3.. Get a product key to activate the trial.
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 (22.5 MB)
Expression Web Trial (200 MB) "
The product key should be on the CD - correct?
After you install .NET Framework and apply the product key, you may have
to reboot your machine.

Thanks

The key is on a link on the download page if you are trying the Trial
Version...on the case if you buy the EW DVD.

You download .NET Framework from a link on the same trial download page (the
URL didn't carry through when I copy/pasted...sorry).

and just download and install .NET Framework from the MS website.

Well, I checked Control Panel/Add/Remove Programs and had the
following listed;

- Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 (with no size listed)
- Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 (size provided)
- Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 Service Pack 1 (size provided)

Is this proper to have mutiple copies of MS .NET Framework installed?

Before looking in there, I had tried to install Microsoft .NET
Framework 2.0 from Microsoft's website, but received an error that it
was incompatible with an installed version of .NET (don't really know
what this means!)

Thanks for any insights.

This interests me too . I have the same except for an extra
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Hotfix (KB928366)

Would it be a good idea to delete all these and then reinstall NET 3.0 (or
whatever the latest is) ?

Would all programs that need earlier versions work with the latest?

So if it says

Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 (size provided)
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 Service Pack 1 (size provided)

Several versions; Yes.

Not sure what "(size provided)" means; but I have all those you have listed
and I know that they're valid 'cause I installed them and they're werkin'.

"(size provided)" means that in Control Panel|Add or Remove Programs, the
size of the program is given in the last column
e.g
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 Size 186.00 MB
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 Service Pack 1 Size 245.00 MB

"(with no size listed)" means that the last column is blank

At the risk of flogging a dead horse, with those listed by Charlie and me,
is NET3.0 the version being used?
(It seems strange to me that the Service Packs are listed, but the programs
themselves (Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 and Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0)
