Microsoft File Transfer

I just downloaded the Connect beta of Windows
Messenger 8.1 beta. When I clicked the Download
button, Microsoft File Transfer popped up and started
downloading the software.

How come MFT isn't used to download these
Vista betas? It seems to work well. It can
reconnect, pause, and you can set concurrent
connections.

It is used in the Technical Betas. I guess its designed to be used in a
controlled beta program, since the speeds are better compared to downloading
through the Public site. Basically, MS seems to allow more bandwidth through
FTM in technical programs that contains a small group of testers.

FWIW, I downloaded both x86 and x64 RC1 from the public server with my 6Mb
connection maxed out the entire time (I used the Reget Dl manager; Akamai
DLM has never worked right for me) Seems like they allocate a fair amount of
bandwidth.
