Can't beat 49.95 for EW2. It's only for US, and undecided how long the offer
is to last. So, stock up now :)

I wonder if you get a free set of Ginsu knives with that.

Probably not but then MS doesn't control the pricing in other countries
where their programs are sold by distributors and subject to different
taxation (VAT, import duties, etc.)

Doesn't seem like the best strategy for world assimilation.......

FYI,
Vat, Import, Duties etc. are not the cause of factors that determines
prices of Microsoftes software in europe or overseas.
Microsoft in many years has produced their software for europe
distribution in Irland.
Microsoftes software prices differs largely from country
to country. The price for a software in individual country is determined
in relation to the average national brutto income per inhabitant.
That´s why african, indian and other poor countrys gets it
for almost nothing - measured with a western ruler.
Of course, retail dealing have an influence on pricing.
The really cause of sinking prices to 50% in us. for the time being
is a huge lack of sales of Expression Web 2. The sales has gone to
Adobes DreamWeaver. Microsoft has to do something about it.
What is nearest to do ?, sinking the prices and crown some more
MVPs to speed up Web-forums. Their sales revenue is highly
dependent on microsoft.forums.

It could be there is a new version due out in a few months.

Do Microsoft still have the policy that if you buy some of there software
and a new version comes out within two months you qualify for a free upgrade?

At MIX the Expression Team stated that new versions were on a 14-18 month
release cycle (which is approximately the same release cycle as
Dreamweaver). Since v2 was released in June of this year I doubt that there
is another version due out in the near future.

Is this based upon any empirical data or just "senn says"?

What do you think? You have read his posts.... and other mvp's .... bearing
in mind why mvp's are made mvp's and the general weirdness of 99% of
his/her posts that should answer the question.

For the record ... the small amount of sales of my tips ebooks keep me in
domains (price less than that of a domain from namecheap) ... are not
generated through the forums or newsgroups as I don't post that often in
them ....and I have as much RIGHT to put whatever I want in my sig lines as
Senn or anyone else.

and come to think of it ... even if such a statement were in reality true
(it's not btw) what the hell would that matter? Mvp's answer questions to
help people they don't get paid.. and many go above and beyond....

can you hear me grinding my teeth?

Does that mean it isn't selling any better than Office 2007, and folks are just
sticking with the tried and true?

I don't know about the States but over here Office 2007 sells pretty
well. After all it has several must have features in Word, Excel and
Powerpoint for the Companies here.
OOXML The State decided to standardize on ODF and OOXML. All public
offices must support both.
Possibility of many more Rows and Columns in Excel plus better
charting.

I think Massachusettes was the only state to mandate open standards for their public
documents. Hope it catches on, though. As I understand the market, which
admittedly I'm far from right on top of, Office 2007 is still a very small segment
of the overall office suite market. Maybe 10-15% tops?

That would've done it for me, had they not destroyed the UI at the same time!
That's an improvement I've been waiting for ever since moving from DOS (where I had
it) to Windows.

Yes, that is a good idea. IF the #$% store would work. I've spent the last 3
days trying to buy this program, but the "security" at the MS Store sounds
like a classic Microsoft joke. I kept getting meaningless "credit card"
errors, requesting I re-enter info. After a few tries, I called Microsoft (I
knew the card was good b/c I just used it at a store). They told me I had to
call my bank. My bank assured me the charges had been authorized, and made a
point of lifting ANY security blocks. MS store STILL wouldn't accept the
charge. The second time I spoke to someone he suggested using another card;
used the bank debit card (which I hate to do) and still nothing.

Today spoke to the "credit protection team" (Microsoft is like Soviet Russia
-- everything means the opposite of what it really is) - they said the
problem is that other people share this address. No duh. It's an office
suite. There are probably 30 or so small businesses here. Well, now that
you've gotten clearance from the bank and my confirmation of the address, you
can just manually override it and let me download a $50 piece of software,
right?

Nope. This is Microsoft. No one can over ride the system. No one can change
anything. The best they can offer is to "clear out all the old orders" and
let me try again.

Again, it's like a bad Microsoft joke. Crappy software that doesn't work
right, and NO way for actual humans to override or fix it. And since it means
I'd have to pay $50 more, I don't really WANT to go buy it somewhere else (as
the "friendly" supervisor told me on the phone).

How is it legal to refuse to sell to somebody because of their address?

CKL

I went through exactly the same thing (calling bank and finding that ALL my
attempts had been approved). Again - bank said company should do a manual
authorization - but Microsoft said no. I didn't have the problem as same
address because it is my home. However, they did offer to send me the
program directly and got approval for free shipping. You may want to ask
for that. I asked if there had been other people with the same problem and
was told not many. :) doubt if that is true.......
