The Microsoft Document Imaging print driver has disappeared from my machine,
and I can't seem to find any information on Microsoft.com to fix the
problem...
My OS is Windows XP Pro, SP2

1. Close all running applications. If you have any Office application running, the driver will not be installed properly.
2. Go to "Control Panel" and "Add or Remove Programs".
3. Click on "Microsoft Office 2003" and then click on "Change".
4. Check "Add or Remove Features" and click "Next".
5. On the bottom of the page check "Choose advanced customization of applications." and click "Next".
6. Under Microsoft Office click on the + sign in front of "Office Tools"
7. Locate the object "Microsoft Office Document Imaging", click the icon and select "Not Available".
8. Click on "Update". This will uninstall the MODI driver.
9. Repeat steps 1 to 6 to go back to the same location you were before.
10. Locate the object "Microsoft Office Document Imaging", click the icon and select "Run from My Computer".
11. Click on "Update".

Once this is complete, you can go to "Control Panel" and then to "Printers and Faxes", if you see a printer with the name of
"Microsoft Office Document Image Writer" then the MODI (Microsoft Office Document Imaging) is properly installed.

I don't have the answer for you Brian, I have the same problem and came here
looking for an answer. I hope someone will help us out.

This didn't fix the problem. I even tried adding step 8.5 (reboot) and step
11.5 (reboot) in various combinations and it did not resolve the problem.

I made sure all apps were closed when I did this.

Is there a possibility some other software on my machine is interfering?
The last time I know for sure MODI was working is December 17th, 2005. I
don't believe I've installed any new software since then.

Thank you for your help.

Unfortunately, I too cannot install MODI's print driver.
I am running a Win XP 64-bit with Office 2003 Small business. I have
found absolutely no support on this issue and no help representitives
are responing to the help forums linked via Microsoft. ANy help would
sorely be appreciated.

Sorry to hear it.

I too have not heard one word form anyone related to microsoft about this
issue since my last posting.

I've tried the uninstall/install process several times since my last
posting, with no luck. But in Word, when you go to INSERT-->OBJECT, there
are now something like 10 or 12 blank entries at the top of the table, where
there just used to be three, so I know the uninstall/install process was
making SOME changes to my system.

One question....
Do you use eFax? The only thing I can think of that might be interfering
with MODI on my system is eFax, although MDI worked for a while after I
installed eFax, so I find it hard to believe...

Nope, brand spankin' new system with no E-fax installed.

I find it ironic that Microsoft may have a potential driver issue with
their very own XP-64 OS and office programs.

I have the same issue, and the problem is that it is a printer driver that is
written for x32 and now we have a x64 OS. I haven't been able to find out if
they have re-written it yet.

I just got my first 64-bit system and loaded XPPro x64 and officePro2003.
All of the Microsoft Office Document Imaging tools are there execept the MDI
printer driver. What a surprise! I would have thought that at least MSoft
would have 64-bit drivers! Is anyone from MSoft there? Can you please let
us know what is going on here? I guess that my only option the unpleasant
prospect of reloading the OS with 32-bit XPPro. Is that correct?

Just wanted to bandwagon....64-bit too, same problem. At least we have this
forum so that all of us know there is a common thread.

I attempted to Google the issue, but have too little time to sort through
all of MS postings on security threats!
