microsoft are dumb-asses - directx

I wanted to download the latest DirectX 9.0c, ok? So I go to the DirectX
page. It then tells me I need to "validate" my Windows XP installation
before I can proceed, and so I had to download the "GenuineCheck.exe" file
tool and run it. So I download the damn thing and run it, only for it to
tell me "This version of GenuineCheck is no longer supported. Please ensure
you have the latest version and that your system clock is accurate". Well,
ummm, yes, and yes. WTF is going on??? There ARE NO OTHER VERSIONS TO USE
LISTED ON THE PAGE!

This validation check - which I assume is due to the increased piracy on the
net - prevents me from downloading the tool; every link I follow leads to
the "Validation" procedure. And YES my XP IS valid.

I was going to try and get it via the Help and Support>Update pages, but
they don't seem to be working either....

*sigh*

PS it just occured to me that someone could just download any update
directly via the Automatic Update feature, thereby bypassing the validation
procedure completely, rendering it rather useless. Otherwise, how could
someone not using a validated XP a)surf the net, and b)access the automatic
updates in the first place?

There is an option somewhere to say download it without vakidation. Valadition is designed to annoy you and for you to go complain to the person who sold you the pirate copy so they stop knowing that they are likely to gey away with it. This is the page you get at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...20-bfbb-4799-9908-d418cdeac197&displaylang=en. Note you can choose to download without valadating (it's an extra 3 clicks or something). It's an computer shop anti thief thing not a consumer thing. Amazing what reading a page can tell you.

Genuine Windows Download
Before obtaining the requested download, please take a moment to validate your genuine Microsoft Windows installation. Validation assures that you are running an authentic and fully-licensed copy of Windows. Validating now will enable faster access to genuine Windows downloads upon future visits to the Download Center. Please see the Why Validate? page to learn more about the Windows Genuine Advantage program and why validation is recommended.

When you select Yes below you will be guided through the short validation process. If you see a Security Warning dialog box from Microsoft, click Yes to install and run the Windows Genuine Validation tool automatically.

Validate Windows and obtain the download
Yes, please validate Windows and take me to the download. (If an ActiveX dialog box appears, please click Yes.)

No, do not validate Windows at this time, but take me to the download.

1.)
http://download.microsoft.com/downl...-4a23-aedc-298a9603b4e4/directx_9c_redist.exe
If you know where to look, it can be directly downloaded from MS.

2.) There is no direct evidence of an increase in piracy since the
internet has become available to the masses. In fact, since 1994 the
piracy rate has dropped world-wide, and even more so in western
countries, by even the BSA's accounting of it. [The BSA (the Business
Software Alliance) is the gestapo arm of the Software industry]

3.) Copy-protection schemes, like WGA & PA, only affect legitimate
consumers negatively, and there are no positve aspects of
copy-protection for the consumer. It doesn't stop or even slow down the
supposed "growth" of piracy. It doesn't result in lower pricing for the
consumer. And all it really does for the consumer is and another of
bullsh*t to go wrong for the consumer.

Consumers already pay for the cost of piracy in the price of the
product, and then software companies, like MS, make you pay for it again
with copy-protection, in the meantime, the pirates are laughing all the
way to the bank, and so are the corporate software elite. And consumers
are screwed by both the pirates and the software corporations.
