Has anyone else tested the AntiSpyware beta from Microsoft. I have found
that it does not catch very much spyware. I ran Adaware, and spybot after,
and I catch things that MS missed. I have to admit I am a little
disappointed it the performance. I guess I expected more. What do you all
think. Any comments?

No single piece of antispyware software appears to be able to uncover all
spyware. Many people to run two different packages, with the Adaware/Spybot
pair seemingly the most common. I have had Microsoft Antispyware find
things that Adaware has missed.

How can you possibly know that it's a piece of sh}t, if you've never tried
it?

I have been testing it on my test machine. It's a beta after all. I have
found it picks up some spyware that Adaware and Spybot don't and vice versa.
All this proves is that the spyware companies move faster than the spyware
removers. I have found it very good at stopping a lot of spyware from
installing and generally warning me when a website wants to change something
in IE. At least for now it's only one tool in the arsenal needed to fight
spyware.

It is still in Beta Testing we should all give it time. It looks as though
it has good possibilities. Continue to use your current ones (should always
use more then just one) to keep everything in check.

LOL
I bet if MS was offering $100 to all testers this guy would be first in
line.

I guess I expect a little more from M$ as compared to free services like
AdAware, and Spybot. I don't expect any one service to catch all spyware,
but I do think that Microsofts should be a ble to stay ahead of the curve.
There is no reason why any older adware/spyware version should be caught by
spybot, or AdAware, and not MS. Like I said, I have high expectations for
microsoft. We installed the IMF for exchange, and it worked like a charm.
Better than any other products Ive tried.

I have never tried jumping off a 50 storey building but I know it would be a
bad experience.

"Proving the point that EULA's are widely ignored, PC Pitstop recently
inserted a "special consideration" clause in its agreement that offered
money to anyone who sent an e-mail to an address contained in the license.
After 3,000 downloads and four months, one person finally took advantage of
the offer and received a check in the mail for $1,000, according to the
company's Web site."

Freakin' *hilarious*.

Really? I live in the euro zone. 100 US dollars ain't much money here since
George WMD Bush took over JesusLand. Now if you want to add three zeros, I
might consider it. The main thing I use is safe hex along with some products
like Spybot, Search & Destroy, AdAware SE, Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and
CWShredder. If need be, I use HijackThis.

In addition I have a NAT router, TrendMicro and Sygate.

MS is the best antispyware program I've tried, and I've tried many of them.
I like most what you seem to like least: it doesn't alert me (i.e waste my
time) with false positives that the other spyware programs did (e.g. tracking
cookies, which are NOT spyware). Also, the MS program is a beta in name only
(it is essentially the program that GIANT used to sell before MS acquired
GIANT) and I haven't had a single problem with it (not even a minor error),
while other antispyware programs I used before that were not betas -- most
notably Spybot -- are actually quite buggy.

I currently use MS antispyware and Ad Aware. Both have proved more than
adequate to keep the crud off my system. I have also used these two programs
to clean other computers, several of which were heavily infested with
crudware but are now clean and trouble-free.

I agree. The MS program used in conjunction with Spybot seems to be good
enough. Adaware also works although, I can't use it on the network because it
is not free for commercial use. Once your PC is free of spyware, MSAS does
seem to do a decent job of blocking new threats.
