Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta1: Failing to catch spyware

I would like to second the comments made by "Eduardo"
on April 19th. I have observed almost all the problems he
describes in his post. I also have observed a slowdown
similar to the one reported by "Jaye" on April 20th, but
in my case, I may have found an underlying cause.
After running Microsoft AntiSpyware for a few weeks,
I began to notice my computer running slower and slower.
Paradoxically, during the same period, my DSL service was
up-graded from about 475 KBPS to around 1200 KBPS. I also
noticed that the program said that NO spyware had been
detected or blocked.
On a hunch, last night ran scans using AdAware-6 by
Lavasoft and Spybot Search & Destroy. AdAware went first
and caught 46 spyware files and 2 registry entries! I
then ran Spybot S&D and detected an additional 28 files!!
Hmmm, 74 pieces of spyware; yes, that WILL slow a computer
down a bit! I have also noted that the Microsoft
AntiSpyware also slows-down the initial boot too.
For now, I think I'm going to follow "Jaye's" example
and dump the program until the bugs are worked out.

The two products you mention scan and count as "severe threats", cookies.

Microsoft Antispyware in the builds so far distributed, doesn't scan
cookies.

I think it is highly unlikely that the presence of some cookies and a couple
of registry entries severely slowed down your machine.

Please re-test when beta2 is released.
