MicroSoft Anti-Spyware

I read in the Wall Street Journal that the Microsoft's
anti-spyware does NOT identify/remove cookies that
spy/track my internet usage.

Could this possibly be true?

If it is, why would I ever purchase this sofware when it
becomes commercially available?

Correct, Microsoft AntiSpyware does not detect cookies in Beta 1.
However you have always had the ability to easily control cookies from
within Internet Explorer:
Tools/Internet Options/Privacy
Microsoft AntiSpyware will be free to legitimate home users.

.I don't beleive that is correct if it is set up
correctly then no tracking cookies can install itself on
your computer.

This is not correct. MSAS does not block cookie downloads. It is your
browser that you should configure to block cookie downloads.
