Hi there from the UK and wonder if anyone can help me.

I cant get my computer to switch off after shut down. After trying a lot of
advice and research, I find that the Microsoft acpi driver is missing. I
believe you need this to complete a full shut down and switch off.

I am running XP home. Can you obtain this driver somewhere.

Thanks

Yes I have but doesn't show how to upload the missing dll

What have you tried from that site, and what were the results of your
efforts?

It's pointless 'uploading' a DLL which is all but useless if the PC
itself is configured incorrectly or doesn't support ACPI.

acpi.sys Do a Search on your machine.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ACPI
DisplayName Microsoft ACPI Driver
ImagePath System32\DRIVERS\ACPI.sys

hal.dll = Hardware Abstraction Layer DLL

The difficulty is that there is more than one version of the HAL driver, and
the exact version needed is related to the hardware of your computer.
The most basic version is intended for a system that does not support ACPI
properly, and gives the user a message that it is safe to turn off the
computer. No automatic shutdown or startup, in other words. The more
advanced versions support ACPI, multiprocessors, etc.

Since you did not share the details of your computer, determining the proper
version of HAL is difficult to impossible. The various version are available
on a windows CD, and the correct version should be located on your hard
drive. Also, modern computers normally do not completely shut down. Some
functionality is left operable, so that startup can occur when for instance,
a keyboard key is pressed.
