Microsoft Access menu bar

I was surprised to see how different microsoft access 2007 was compared to
microsoft access 2003. I was somewhat overwelmed. Does anyone else feel the
same way?

You mean you thought a proper Windows app was supposed to adhere to a set of GUI
standards so that a new user would instantly have an idea how to move around in
the application? Definitely an obsolete mind-set.

Hey, they've got all those programmers on the payroll. They have to give them
something to do don't they?

I was somewhat overwelmed.

That's not what Microsoft intended. Microsoft redesigned the interface so
that new users could build a database application quickly, without any
training or skills in relational database design, software design, or
programming. Microsoft is very proud of this redesigned interface.

Give it some time. It may grow on you.

Hi Frank,

Microsoft really changed up Access 2007. I like to compare it to a snow globe; they really shook it
up big time!

You're not alone in seeing an initial decrease in productivity. You will find yourself scratching
your head trying to find where everything is for several weeks. Give it time because eventually it
will sink in; trust me on that. I actually find myself becoming a little lost going back to previous
versions because I'm very accustomed to the new interface now.

If you'd like some help learning where all the menu bar and toolbar commands are located in the
Ribbon, I recommend you do the following:

1. Open Access 2007
2. Click the Help button in the upper right corner
3. Maximize the Help screen if it's too small to see things easier
4. In the Help Search box in the upper left corner type this in:

HA10166606

(You can copy and paste it from here if you'd like)

5. Now hit the Search button
6. Access should now list the perfect help topic you need (Result 1 of 1)
7. Click the link to read the help topic on this subject.

You'll find a link in that article to the "Access Ribbon Mapping Workbook." You'll definitely want
to save this spreadsheet! You'll be able to easily see on a series of tabs where are all the
commands have been moved in the Ribbon.
