Microphone recording

I know this doesnt have anything to do with windows as such but I am hoping
someone out there knows what to do. I am recording sound with Sony Sound
Forge 7.0, a stereo condenser microphone and my Creative Labs Soundblaster
Live soundcard. I am recording but my microphone isnt picking up very good.
The bars in the record window dont go up far. I have also noticed when I
view the sound I have recorded in the graph view (time display) both
channels are exactly the same, despite the fact that I am using a stereo
microphone. What could be wrong here?

Check the impedance of the mic and the mic input of the soundcard to make sure
they match. Maybe you have a low impedance mic connected to a high impedance mic
input.
Low impedance mics are generally the professional variety.
Can't explain the mono signal for a stereo mic. But when you do another test...
tap the mic head around the sides. Or snap your fingers off to one side then the
other. Check the setup in Sound Forge to make sure it is set for stereo
recording via the mic.
