Microphone recording to CD

Anyone know how to use Windows Media Player (or something
else) to use a microphone for recording live music?

I'm using a new Toshiba laptop with XP-Home Edition.

I assume it will record the music in a file that can then
be copied to a CD.

The real goal is to make a CD recording of a musical event.

Thanx, EdB (the frustrated)

ps: Oh-by-the-way, Toshiba says "see Microsoft",
Microsoft says "see Toshiba" (Who could of guessed.....?)

You need the capability to record for more than 60 seconds at a time. You can
use Audacity to do the recording and then edit the WAV files. Get it free at
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Yes you Can using any software program that allows .wav
recordings. In windows you already have are should have a
program called (sound recoder) That can do This. A better
way is to get a software program such as Creative Recoder
that allow this with several recording options. If you
use your computers sound card and it has line inputs use
these instead and purchase an audio mixer for use with
better MIC. ETC. Another option is Buy a USB audio
recoder/decoder made by Creative or equil. You can find
these at Radio Shack for about $60.00 an up.
