why is my microphone not working in Vista..

in previous machine, on Windows 2000, no problems at all.. in this
machine did the same thing I did in previous machine: connect
microphone to computer vis USB port, that's it.. evidently in Vista
this is not enough.. what do I need to do so my microphone works in
Vista?

(no problems w/other sounds stuff.. can listen to DVD's, audio CDs,
MP3's no problem..)

thank you very much...

all topics in HELP related to microphone are related to speech-
recognition.. I don't need it for that.. I just need it for use with
Skype..

thank you..

Are you sure your USB microphone has drivers properly installed? Check
Device Manager.

(W2000) all I did was connect it to machine via USB port, that's it..
didn't have to isntall any driver to run it.. don't even remember if
the mike came with a CD.. but if it did, it's somewhere in my house, I
never throw those things away... ok, thank you for yr response...

Forget that old CD. What you would need is Vista drivers for the mic. Look
for them on the Logitech website.
