Michrophone Mute.

I have managed to get my microphone working under Vista however I am haveing
a feedback problem.

Under my old windows ( win2k) you could mute the microphone playback so that
it didn't feed through your speakers but was still active.

I found this solved issues for feedback etc while talking online.

I can't find this or a similar option in vista and i am currently stuck with
having my speakers play back every key or mouse click that my microphone
picks up. ... not to mention the background noise.

I hope someone can advise as I'm sure this option is here somewhere as it
would be a common complaint otherwise.

Open "Playback devices" in the control panel, or by right-clicking on the
speaker icon in the notification area and clicking "Playback devices".
Select the speakers you use and click on Properties.
On the tab Levels, you can mute each device that plays trough te speakers.

If you mute a device from your speakers doesn't mute it from recording, so
you don't need to unmute your microphone to record something.

It can be muted in Control Panel/Sound/Recording/ Select your microphone and
go to the levels tab.
