I increased the MFT Reserve in line with the recommendation made by Diskeeper
9. It is now occupying too much space. Can I reduce it again. Diskeeper does
not allow to set it back.
Thank you for helping me on this.

"Start" then "run" and type "cmd".
Here type " fsutil behavior set mftzone 1 " press Enter.
Now MFT is standard.

The size of MFT Reserve remained unchanged

You can also submit a technical support request at the Diskeeper
website. They usually respond within one or two business days.

Open the registry editor: Start | Run | regedit | Ok

Navigate to this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem

In the right hand pane look for the value name NtfsMftZoneReservation.
It can have four values 1-4 with 1 being small (default) and 4 being
Maximum. If it's set to 4 right click on the value name, choose modify
and type in a value of 1 or 2.

It's always a good idea to backup the registry when making changes. An
excellent tool for this is ERUNT. See these links:

I seem to remember in one of the Knowledge Base articles that
NTFSMftZoneReservation can't be decremented once you apply a
higher than normal value to it. Hopefully, you took an XP system
partition image before you changed the value with Diskeeper.

Thank you but nothing seems to change the size downwards anymore.

It seems you are right: I was not able to reduce the MFT Reserve that had
been increased by Diskeeper 9.

They cannot be of help. This is quite poor as I used the latest Diskeeper
Version and these people should know that XP increases the reserve
automatically in line with the requirements, but instead suggest a 10fold
increase of the reserve. Once done you cannot undo it anymore. Bye Bye
Diskeeper. I have purchased the O&O Desfragmenter after reading the ratings
of users and experts.
