Dear Tom (Pepper) Willett,

The question you didn't understand I think I've found the answer in a
tutorial (i sure have been reading them over and over again) it is -- <a
href="http://www.website.com">A link<a>

I hope I am not mistaken in using these links to other sites referred to
on my pages.

Thank you for all your help.

Sincerely,
Art O'Shea

Dear Murray,

I tried copying that into my browser and it could not comply, it took me
nowhere, then i tried using http but that failed to go anywhere also.

Is this link for a secured membership where there is a link you must go
to first to sign up then use the
nntp://news.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.frontpage.client ?

Thanks for your help.

Dear Tom,

Thank you very much, I hope I am posting this correctly. It is
wonderful
to find a group that really helps.

By the way, do you know of any chat room, forum or community where
webmasters help each other with their sites?

Thank you,

This indicates you have cut or copied all of the information correctly,
and
it's missing some tags.

Another strange thing is that the </head> is at the bottom of the
HTML
page view instead of after meta tags and before <body>. Should I move
</head> up to the end of the meta tags?

The </head> must be prior to the body tag. This *might* also be the
reason
your meta tags are showing in html view.

Yes - that's because it's not a website. Had you clicked on the link
instead it might have started OutlookExpress and taken you to this forum.

Dear Murray,

I don't know what the problem is but my site has crashed twice in two
weeks and it took a day each time to rebuild them. All the meta tags were
lost and I have to redo them.

My question, is there a way to cut, copy & paste code without getting a
lot of added script. I have tried notepad, word, and straight copy in FP to
the next page.

Am I being lazy here? Or just inexperienced? If I have to do it page by
page I will make sure this time to save it to my backup CD, instead of
trusting my host.

Thank You,

Well sure - copy what you want and paste it in. But I'm confident I don't

Dear Murray,

I called my host about the problem of dissapearing navigation and banners.
After we talked he assured me it was a quirk in FP. He was right and I
found a way around it by going to my backup CD, opening the page then going
to the site and edit in FP, select all, delete, then paste in my backup.

As to cut, copying and pasting meta tags a lot of extra stuff shows up
when I do this. I have spent a lot of time hand inputing meta tags for each
page as my worry is that with all the extra code added after a paste that it
will make my pages load slower. For instance instead of just (") it writes
quote something adds a lot of spaces and <p>'s, the font and a lot more stuff.

It sure would be easier if I didn't have to worry about that.

Thank you for your help in advance.

Thank You,

First of all, I am losing confidence in your host. Not only has he/she said
exactly what I thought he/she would say (it's not me - it's them), but also,
I think there is no such problem with FP.

Secondly, it would be ever so much easier for me to visualize what you are
describing if you showed me a before and after your copy and paste.

Dear Murray,

Sorry for my slow response. I agree with you that my host is goofing me
up and could you suggest a host that truly serves Front Page? My host, Rick,
tells me that Front Page isn't used by anyone anymore and suggested
Dreamweaver. He also said that only one in a hundred customers on his server
uses FP and I'm it.

Second answer concerning cut, copy and paste. Here is what I mean:

<META http-equiv="PICS-Label" content='(PICS-1.1
"http://vancouver-webpages.com/VWP1.0/" l gen true comment "VWP1.0" by
"(e-mail address removed)"
on "2006.01.19T09:59-0800" for "http://www.stonesoupcorp.com"
r (P 0 S 0 V 0 Com 3 Tol -2 Env -3 SF 0 Edu -3 Can -1 MC -2 Gam -1 ))’>
</PRE>

Pastes as:
<p class=MsoNormal><meta http-equiv="PICS-Label"
content='(PICS-1.1</p>

<p class=MsoNormal>"http://vancouver-webpages.com/VWP1.0/" l gen true
comment "VWP1.0" by "(e-mail address removed)" </p>

Tol -2 Env -3 SF -2 Edu -3 Can -1 MC -3 Gam -1 ))'&gt;</p>

<p class=MsoNormal></PRE></p>

Should I let this concern me? Will it slow down page loading? Or, am I
making it too hard on myself and should just let HTML code work itself out?

Thanks for all your help Murray.

This is obviously a host that has no interest in serving you (pun intended).
I suggest you start a new thread asking for recommendations on FP hosts.

As for your copy and paste, my head is swimming. You have just witnessed a
miracle.

But first, explain your markup to me, please. Where is this code located in
your page, and why is there a </pre> tag following the <meta>?

Dear Murray,

All of that code was generated after submitting to Vancouver-webpages that
ranks your site for Canadian content. One of the patents we feature on the
site is by a Canadian, so we thought we'd get their stamp of approval.

I have found if I cut, copy and paste from a tutorial that it shows up
with a whole bunch of unnecessary font inforamtion and more. But, if I put
it in by hand then cut, copy and paste in the same website but a different
page this does not happen.

As to the <PRE></PRE> that may be a Canadian thing, we are aiming to get
the greatest audience that we can.

Murry, how do I start a new thread? I've tried it before with no success.

Thank you very much for all your help.

Paste the code into Notepad - not Word, or WordPad (judging by the <p
class=MsoNormal> it looks as if Word, or possibly Publisher, was used
somewhere.)

In notepad, make sure that the entire meta tag is on one line (use
Format->Word-wrap if that helps).
Delete the </PRE> tag - this is something extra you picked up, and
should not be there.

Open your website in FrontPage, then open the page. Change to Code or
HTML view and locate the <head> section at the top of the page.
Then copy and paste from Notepad directly into the <head> section of
the page.
There should not be any extraneous code copied with it.
If you are asked how to paste - choose "as HTML"

Dear Ronx,

Thank you for your input. I tried Notepad, it too added the extra; font,
color and other HTML code.

There are two more things that I will try, I will copy code directly from
the HTML in FP to Word and choose Blank Web Page option.

What I have done now is as I am rebuilding my super crashed site I input
by hand on the home page then just cut, copy & paste into the second page and
edit; <Title>, <meta name=" <h1>Description</h1> and keywords.

This is good because I've been re-writing as I go using better ranked
keywords from the Keyword Selector Tool;
http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/

I will change my host to lunarpages and try "save as" in FP directly itto
a New Folder in CD-RW. If this fails I will try again using the Blank Web
Page in Word.

Thank you very much for your help. I'd like to thank all of the
community that has help me and been patient with me, it is turning out much
better than originally expected.

Thank You,
