Messenger Pop-ups

Dave

I just signed with a new DSL and e-mail service since I
moved, and ever since I've been getting these
annoying "Messenger" notices popping every 30 minutes or
so. Some of them are advertisements, and some of them
give websites to go to in order to make these pop-ups
stop, including spw3.com, updatenow.org and
messengerplug.com.
Should I follow their directions and go to these sites?
If not, what can I do to stop these things?

Thanks in advance.

Are you running with Windows XP? If so then you can turn messenger service
off if you are sure this is what is causing your popups. Go to Start, then
click on settings and click on control panel then click on Administrative
tools then click on services. Find messenger and double click on that and
then startup mode and click disabled. You can also find the stop and click
on that and it will turn the service off. This should fix the messenger
service from giving you popups. Just remember if you have installed a pop
up program (like gator) this will not fix that at all.

Hey Dave! Ignore these messages and do not fall prey to
purchasing their software when redirected to their
websites. A few of these ad driven site are being sued
because they first send the message popup and then make
you believe the only way to stop them are by purchasing
their software. I suggest running a spyware/adware
program and see if that helps in removing the adwares. If
not, you are going to have to trace the destination file
down through your task panel by trying to find the
running process that is responsible for the ads, going to
the file location on your drive and then deleting it. I
hope this helps.
