According to the responses to the 15 other people who
have raised similar issues over the last few days, it is
bull, you just need a firewall to stop it. Enable the one
built into XP, or go buy one that's more than just a
minor delay to hackers. If you choose to buy one,
ZoneAlarm works quite well.
 
Hello,
I get the same stupid "messenger" pop-up even though I
have Norton Security Firewall. Do you have any idea, how
come Norton doesn't prevent the messenger pop up ads? If
it does, how should it be configured?

Greetings --

Use the firewall to block UDP ports 135, 137, and 138; TCP ports
135, 139, and 445. You may also disable Inbound NetBIOS (NetBIOS over
TCP/IP). You'll have to follow the instructions from firewall's
manufacturer for the specific steps.
