Messenger logs in periodically

I am currently running XP with messenger 4.7. Recently it
has been logging in thoughout the day by itself. I have
disabled the auto login with outlook express but it is
still happening. It will not allow me to exit the
program as other features use it eg outlook. It will not
change the status to away after five minutes. This odd
and has been on going for 2 weeks.

Suggestions?

While Outlook is integrated with Messenger, Outlook Express is not.
Even if you are using Outlook, it should not be automatically logging
you on to Messenger. To make Messenger stop starting when the computer
starts, thus preventing it from connecting:

1. Open Messenger
2. Click Tools ===> Options
3. Click the Preferences tab
4. Uncheck Run this program when Windows starts.
5. Click OK.

An upgrade to Messenger 6.1 has solved the periodic login
problem. Thanks for the response.
