Messenger auto starting in background???

Last night I was online and all of a sudden a got a messenger conversation.
I hadn't used messenger in ages, the icon was not in the task bar and I
didn't start it up. I quickly went to task manager and ended the process for
msmsgs.exe However, every few minutes it starts back up. There is no
indication or icon in teh task bar...it runs completely in the background. I
have tried uninstalling it, running a virus checker...no success? Is this a
virus, trojan? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, yeah i had the same thing, go onto the options window
on messanger (tools > options) and then (i cant remember
wich tab it is) but on one of the tabs there is loads of
tick boxs, and thr are some like, 'sign me in
automaticly' and 'allow program to run in background'
ect, untick them, hope it helps

go to section M and there are various procedures that might suit your
situation
Remove Messenger from XP
Uninstall Messenger
Remove MSN Messenger from Outlook Express
