Messenger 7.5 audio setup

B

Big Dave

Hello,

Been having a problem and thought I would describe here in case
someone knows what's up. Googled the problem, but not found. Here goes:

Have messenger setup on XP for girlfriend. She talks to China with it
regularly; however, it seems that each time an audio conversation is
initiated by either side, we have to run through the audio/video setup
process or it will not work.
In other words, we have to perform the audio/video wizzard before each
conversation - it seems as if these settings are wiped out each time.
Anyone know if this is common issue?
Thanks in advance,

Greetings Dave,

Out of curiosity, is she using a usb headset out of any chance -- and unplugging it after
use? If so, when Messenger detects the device is gone it resets the settings so you have to
go through them again.

Jonathan,

Thanks for the quick reply.
We're using a USB mic. & PC speakers. The mic stays plugged in 24/7,
but I can't remember if the mic setup has to be done with each boot of
the computer or not, (I was thinking that she turns off the computer
every night, and it may have to be setup after each boot and not after
each messenger restart - I'll have to check that...).
Either way, I need to figure this out as she thinks I am spying by
making it so I *have* to set this up each time. Arrgggg...
Again, I appreciate it.

Hi,

I'm not quite sure why it's thinking it's another device especially if you've not unplugged
it. Due to the way this functionality works, it's obviously saving the settings or it
wouldn't work at all.

I guess to avoid the "spying", I guess you should just show her how to go through the wizard
:).
