Messages stuck in outbox until re-start outlook & re-send

Client is outlook 2007 running on Windows XP SP2 with all latest hotfixes.
Outlook 2007 running in cached mode talking to exchange 2003 mailbox

Randomly messages will get stuck in outbox even though outlook reports _
connected to MS Exchange
Client is running NAI AV. There are some outlook add ins loaded. (Salesforce)

Opening the message in the outbox and clicking send has no effect.
If the users shuts down outlook, restarts, go to the outbox, open the emails
and clicks send they will be delivered

Any hints on how to go about solving this one?

I had this too. I have unticked "use cache exchange mode" under the email
accounts. This has resovled it for me, but if you need to use the offline
mode - not much help!
