Scads of reasons. We need more information. Is she using Outlook as well?
If so, do the messages remain in her Outbox? Do thet move to her Sent Items
folder? If she's not using Outlook, what is she using? What version Outlook
is involved? Are you using an IMAP account?
AOL users can access their mail using Outlook configured to use an IMAP
account. IMAP is a mail protocol similar to POP, but instead of keeping
messages locally on your PC, they remain on the server and Outlook accesses

Any number of reasons, but I'd be inclined to look for an anti-spam scanner in
the way.
