Messages are not being marked as read unless I double click them.

Both my email, and rss feeds as not being automatically marked as read. I
have already tried going to "options", then "other", then "reading pane". I
have tried all the options there, and none seem to work at all. I have also
tried to repair office 2007, but that did not solve anything. I would really
appreciate some help here, as my inbox, and rss feeds just keep pilling on
here. Thanks in advance.
 
So which setting do you currently have it set to and in which way do you
want your emails to be marked as read?
For instance, I prefer not to have them being marked as read automatically
after a few seconds or when I switch to another message. I always use
CTRL+ENTER to mark my messages as read.
