Every few times I use my computer, I go to shut down and get a message saying
"other people are logged on to this computer shutting down windows might
cause them to lose data, do you want to continue shutting down? yes/no.
Is there another person using my computer? I use dial up and am logged off
of Aol when I shut down, Is this a glitch or should I be concerned?

This happens when a computer has more than one user and the other user(s)
are still logged on.
It does not mean some remote person is using your system.
How many users can log on to your computer, when Windows boots up?
If you share the computer with another member of your family and they have
been using it before you, chances are they have not logged off and may still
have applications running.

I am the only user.

Well, in this case, it would be wise to check whether or not someone
is logged on to the system and sharing a file or folder or even if
the computer has connected to an external source. This could happen
with spyware "calling home" or a a keylogger in action, and so on.
Is the firewall enabled and blocking outgoing transmissions? Do a
security sweep.
