1. When a file will not load because of this problem, is there a way to get
around this and load it any way?
My version of Excel is ver 8 (Office 97).
2. Do the later versions allow for more different cell formats?
3. Is there a way to find out how close you are to the maximum allowed befor
you get there?
Thankyou
Ed

Hi Ed,
Lots of improvements in the way formatting is handled since Excel 95 and Excel 97.
and probably in the operating system in use as well. The OS still seems 12-25 years
behind though regards to Virtual Storage.

Anyway see this recent thread about getting rid of unused formats
http://groups.google.co.uk/groups?threadm=#[email protected]

And each combination of inside/outside border (top/bottom/right/left), colors for each,
width of border, number format, all make for a unique combination. Another reason
to format an entire sheet or entire columns at one time.
