Simply click Start, then Run, type "MMSYS.CPL" and click OK. Then click the Sounds tab, and
find the "New Message" under Windows Messenger or MSN Messenger (depending on which
application you're referring to) under Program events. Simply choose the option and then
choose (None) for the sound.

Open Messenger and then click on TOOLS in the upper taskbar . In the drop
down menu click on the OPTIONS tab. In the OPTIONS window on left side of the
window scroll down and open the ALERTS AND SOUNDS tab. Uncheck the the
allerts / sounds you do not want to hear.
