message stuck in outlook freezes the program

Occasionally, I get messages in my inbox which when clicked freeze Outlook.
They cannot be deleted and I must skip past them when scrolling old messages
or the program locks up. I now have one which sits atop my inbox list and
therefore freezes Outlook so I can no longer use it.

Occasionally, I get messages in my inbox which when clicked freeze

What can I do?

Click File and check "Work Offline". Stop and restart Outlook. Delete the
messages from Outbox. Click File and uncheck "Work Offline".
