Message: No Array Defined

Hello,

I have a computer here that has on board SATA raid. It's acting like
there is no hard drive installed all of a sudden. When I boot the
controller says there is no array defined.

When I enter the raid utility, I can see the hard drive under channel
1- but it does not say "assigned" under the assignment column. It says
"free".

When I go to the "rebuild array" menu option, I have four possible
arrays but nothing is listed.

The same thing happens when I go to the "define array" menu option.

I know this is not a lot to go on. I can't tell if this is a
controller
problem- or if the hard drive just gave up.

The raid is on board: ASUS K8V SE Deluxe, the HD is a SATA Barracude
120GB disk.
The controller says "FastTrack" when it boots.

If you only have one hard drive installed then you are not using RAID and
cannot set up an array. In the BIOS there should be an option to set the
SATA controller mode, set it to IDE (or similare) instead of RAID.

Not neccessarily so, it depends on the controler, some require you to set
the raid as 'jbod' when using a single disk

I wanted to try and determine if the problem was the board/controller
or the hard drive, so I put it in another computer that has a SATA raid
card and it was detected as jbod. I did not know what that meant but
it was detected at least. I will examine the BIOS settings and try to
figure this out.

thanks for your reply.
