Message in Outbox won't send

I'm presently encountering a problem in sending e-mail in Outlook 2007.

I attempted to send a file that contained an attachment that was 2 MB. This
has never been a problem in the past in sending a file of this size.
However, after I initially attempted to send this file, in the lower
right-hand corner of Outlook the message appeared, "... preparing to send 1
of 1..."

This message stayed put for about 30 minutes. Obviously I knew after a
short period of time that something was wrong (especially considering I'm
using a pretty fast cable modem setup), but I decided to just let Outlook go
through its normal processes, hoping that it would work itself out. It
didn't.

I next decided to manually attempt to delete the file (within the Outbox
view). I right-clicked on the file and chose delete. Nothing happened.
Apparently Outlook is still attempting to send the file. There seems to be
no manual override in relation to delete in the file.

I then decided to close out of the program. I was presented with the normal
warning that it was still attempting to send the e-mail, but I closed out of
Outlook anyways. I knew that after 30 minutes there was no hope that it was
going to actually send the file no matter how long I let the program stay
open.

After restarting Outlook I have found that the file is still located in the
Outbox. Unfortunately, it's now preventing other e-mails from being sent to
other addresses. It seems that unless and until this first problem e-mail is
dealt with, Outlook is not going to follow up with any other outgoing
e-mails. (Even restarting the computer itself did not change this situation.)

The surprising thing about this current predicament is that I can still
receive incoming e-mail.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I might manually override Outlook's
attempts to send this first e-mail (containing this 2 MB attachment)?

Thanks!
