Message envelope in the system tray on rules?

Can anyone tell me how I can get the little envelope icon to appear in the
system tray on items that have rules applied to them. It appears to only work
on items that stay in the Inbox.

There doesn't seem to be a 'display message icon' action. You can change the
colour of the flag, but that's just the flag on the list display isn't it?

I can get it to show a desktop alert - but I find them intensely annoying!

OK. I've set the rule to display a desktop alert. Now - the weird thing is
that the desktop alert (which I don't like) isn't appearing. BUT - the little
envelope icon (which I DO like) IS appearing.

Freaky. It seems there's something wrong there - but it works in my favour -
so I'm not going to complain!!!
