Merge fields

Can I insert a merge field in a word formula.
An amount is being merged from a database and we would like to decrease the
number by 50.00. And insert into a word document.
 
You need this field:

{ = { MERGEFIELD "Name of Field" } - 50.00 }

You must use Ctrl+F9 for the field delimiters {}
