Menus, Search remaining open

One thing I miss after changing from the Acorn operating system is the
ability to allow menus to remain open after selecting an item.

For instance when using the search facility from Start and clicking an item
the window closes down and if it is the wrong item then another search has to
be started. If the resulting search remained up then one could continue to
try to find what one is looking for.

Or am I missing something simple?

I understand what you mean about the search facility closing. What I do
(if I can't easily see what it is I'm searching for) is to click on the
'See All Results' which means another window open but I don't have to
enter the search term over and over.
