How can I have the full menus on the bar of "file, edit view etc. be fully
extened when I click on them and not have only a few items appear and have to
click on the two small down arrows to extend the menu and show all selections?

Bob, this is for Internet Explorer (let us know if you need help with
another toolbar):
--You can right-click a blank space on the Toolbar and unlock the Toolbar.
Then, you can slide the vertical bars around to reallocate the space on the
Toolbar.
--If your toolbar is too crowded, then you can get rid of the Links toolbar
if you do not use it: Right-click the Toolbar and uncheck Links. Also, if
you do not use the GO button (using Enter instead) you can uncheck the GO
button.
--Do you use the buttons to the right of the Refresh button? you can cover
them up by sliding the menu part over the unused icons.
You can adjust the width of the Address bar in the same way.
--If you need even more space, you can use your mouse to drag the toolbar
edge down and make it double width.
When done, lock the Toolbar.

The Menu Bar (from File to Help, plus the blank space) is an element that
does not seem to be modifiable.
The Toolbar, though, with all the icons on it, is very crowded and can be
made double width to accommodate the many icons on it:
Point with your mouse at the horizontal border line separating the Toolbar
and the Taskbar. You will not see a double arrow. Click the left mouse
button and drag downwards, and you should get a double-wide Toolbar.
At this point, review the icons available to you. If there are some, like
the paragraph symbol, Drawing, Paste, Outside Border, etc. that you never
use or else you implement them by other means, you might find enough useless
icons that you want to do some housecleaning:
Click the little triangle arrow at the right end of one of your toolbars.
Click Add or Remove icons.
Edit your icon choices on the drop-down list.
If you thin out the icons enough, you can then go back to a single width
Toolbar.
Point at the border between the two Toolbars, and drag upwards.
