I have 1GB of DDR RAM installed in my XP machine with an AMD Athlon 64
3200+. Is it worth installing more memory ie another Gb? (The machine is
mostly used for general internet access and MS Office apps plus a small
amount of video; no games use)

Thank you.

Hello,

If you are upgrading to Vista or playing games, the extra RAM comes into
play.

Otherwise, if you are using it for just internet access and MS office apps,
1GB RAM is sufficient.

Check your free memory by hitting Ctrl+Shift+Esc, going to Performance (tab)
and checking Available Physical Memory.

If it is less than 100000, its probably time to buy RAM though I can't
imagine what office application would take up so much memory other than
Firefox (long surfing, many tabs)

do the ctrl-alt-del and let it run in the background after awhile check the
"Physical Memory" total against the "Commit Charge" peak. if the peak is
higher then the total you will benefit by adding more memory. but keep in
mind that XP has had issues with going over 2.84. you will also have to
check the board and see if its dual channel or other funky set ups. crucial
has a free on line tester you can use

I have never used it but

No. Not for your current use.

You should have plenty of memory already. If you got the memory cheap then
maybe but doesn't seem to be a big need.
