To All Cognoscenti, Greetings!

My Foxconn Winfast K7S741MG/K7S741GXMG motherboard has 512 MB of memory
installed. I'd like to increase it to 1 GIG. What kind of memory should I
purchase?

Thanks in advance,

Andy

Another stick like the one you've already got ?
Does the current stick work good ?
Tested with memtest86+ or with Prime95 (torture test option) ?

PC2700 Non-ecc.

For Example:

(You can get it elsewhere if you like)

Thanks.

I finally took the trouble of pulling the current memory. It's marked 512 MB
DDR PC2700. It that the same as PC2700 Non-ecc?

Yes

You might also see if there are any markings on the module
relating to CAS latency, perhaps the numbers on the sticker.
If you already had CAS2 or 2.5, it would be as well to buy
more of the same or better memory rather than CAS3 would
would be a minor performance hit.

You should also be able to buy PC3200, your board uses what
could be termed quite standard memory, most common PC2700 or
3200 should be compatible though you might check Foxconn's
website to see if they have any bios updates for memory
compatibility issues.

If your MB is capable (check its documentation, especially the chip
set) I advise getting ECC memory. It will save you much guessing
and hair loss about memory faults in the future.

He'd then have to replace the original memory. His original ram, as far
as he's told is fine.
Op did not mention any trouble with ram, just asked about an upgrade.

Mixing ecc and non ecc would at best be a waste of money, at worst it
would CAUSE memory compatibility problems.

FWIW, I checked for specs. Foxconn does not say, and crucial memory
advisor does not list the motherboard.

I don't understand why you would buy from MemoryTen. These
are standard modules, there is no need to deal with a
company that has so many bad ratings at resellerratings.com:

Which one should I choose?

As mentioned previously, it would depend on what the CAS
rating is on your current modules but most likely I'd get
this,

I didn't recommend mixing, which is pointless, unless to cheapen a
future upgrade to ECC. I did recommend the peace of mind that
comes with ECC.

I dunno what Memory Ten is, but looking at the price I would think "NONE".
And it's about time for you to learn to spend more time reading text message
to learn few tip from others.

1. Point your browser to www.google.com and do some searching.

2. When you get bored or dizzy with so many hits, and it should point youto
some link I may give you below. Then point your browser to some specific
site like

www.nextag.com check and compare the price
www.pricewatch.com

and dozen similar sites where you can search and compare the price's of
many different online store. Or you can go to some site like www.newegg.com
that sometime has good price, and many online shoppers know newegg is a good
store.

That's about all you need to get started, and that's the award you earn
for reading text message <bg>

To All Cognoscenti:

Many thanks to all for sharing the benefit of your experience with a layman
like me. I've ordered the memory from a local supplier here in BC.
