Go to http://www.crucial.com/; look for "STEP 1" in big red letters.
Plug in your mobo manufacturer and model. Problem solved....

try www/crucial.com/uk/webpromo, if that still works, for an extra 5%
off.

Generic memory should work on that board as well as it will work on
any other board, ie maybe a 75% chance of it working if you're lucky.
The problem with generic memory is that the quality of the stuff has
become absolutely terrible (5 years ago I used to swear by the stuff
because it was so cheap, now I just swear at it). Quality control is
basically non-existent, no testing done to make sure that it works and
the warranty is usually terrible. End result, you OFTEN get crap that
just won't work on any motherboard, or if you're lucky it will
randomly work on some boards but not on others. Nothing particularly
different about MSI boards or the nForce2 chipset, you'll run into the
same sorts of problems on any modern board.

The easy solution is to just go to www.crucial.com and buy your memory
from there. Prices are reasonable and you KNOW that you'll get decent
quality memory. Most stores and on-line vendors also now have some
decently priced brand-name memory available. Stuff like Corsair Value
Select memory or Kingston Valueram. I know my regular vendor also
carries some Samsung brand memory modules for only a few dollars more
than the generic crap (as of today it's actually $1 cheaper than the
generic stuff), so you might want to check if your vendor has
something similar. Just make sure that it's Samsung (or Infineon, or
Elpida, or whoever) modules you get and not just Samsung chips on
generic modules, aka generic crap.

You don't need to go for the Hyper eXtreme Turbo RAM with Blinky
Lights (tm), that stuff is just a waste of money. However spending an
extra few dollars to get brand name memory with a decent warranty is
definitely worthwhile.

Hey, thanks. Still there today - 5% off is nice.

(It is a coupon-code for the UK site only, but VAT-paying
Europeans sure appreciate some help ;-).

If you check MSI's Web site, you'll see that they recommend Kingston memory
for all their mbrds. While I'm sure any good brand memory, like Crucial,
Corsair etc. will work, I've always used Kingston stuff with their mbrds
since I assume that's what they use for testing and validation. I've never
had a hint of a problem.

If there's a choice of CAS Latency 2.5 for a small increase in price over
the CAS Latency 3, get the former. Occasionally you'll find the Kingston
HyperX stuff, sometimes rated higher like PC3500, for little more than the
ValueRAM so again figure whether the price difference is worth it.

Not sure what's going on there - the mbrds they say they "no longer
support" are the non-Delta versions. On a quick look, they seem to "no
longer support" any nForce2 chipset from MSI but do support nForce2 chipset
mbrds from other mfrs. I hadn't heard of any trouble with either the
non-Delta or Delta MSI mbrd versions with memory and I can assure you I've
had no trouble with Kingston memory in any of them. The last one was a
K7N2 Delta-L and at the time the Kingston HyperX PC3200 was on a special at
www.newegg.com so I got it. If you're wary get the Crucial stuff.
