Memory heatsinks

I have a Saphire Atlantis 9500np 128mb card that works with the soft mods to
up it to 9700 pace. I would like to add heatsinks to the memory chips for
extra safety. Any recommendations for manufacture/supplier and best way to
attach them.

I'm going to buy some fron the guy in the lower link. He wants 80 cents a
piece but its a direct sale. The other want 7$ for four with free shipping
on e-bay If you look through the thread in the lower link you will find an
e-mail link to contact the guy, for obvious reasons I'm not going to post
his e-mail address on usenet.

when you use the soft mod you are not overclocking the ram, just
unlocking the 4 pipes. unless you overclock you dont need the sinks ~
a well cooled case is sufficient :)

And even if you do overclock, the ram sinks won't really get you any higher.
They may help keep the card stable at maximum overclock, but that's about
it. Even then, they won't work unless there's good ventilation.

After experimenting with a couple of kinds on a couple of cards, I've more
or less concluded that ram sinks are mostly for show and have more
psychological than practical value.

Yep... agreed... now with the high MHZ GeForce FX cards, they kinda
need it... but otherwise no.

Also, its possible that the ADD-ON "cooler sinks" could make it warmer
if not done correctly.

A friend bought some spanking new DDR RAM for his system... along with
heatsinks (One of those NewEGG recommendations - ugh)...

I went ahead and applied them for him... but they didn't fit the DIMMS
correctly on both ends. Told him they were more for SHOW than for
function... He could have ordered some DIMMS with proper heatsinks for
about the same price ;)

Anyways... he has no windowed cover... yes it looks a bit nicer, but
whatever.

I got approximately 4mhz extra by including the ramsinks. running my 9800pro
at 460/360 for day to day gaming... 480/370 for benching...

Why would you run your system faster for benchmarking than you do for
gaming? Kinda defeats the object ;)

Not if the object is bragging rights, or to see how the system runs on the
ragged edge.

I'm not the original poster, but I do sometimes run at lower speeds for a
particular game.

My system, a P4 2.4 overclocked to 3.3, is 100 percent stable with
everything in it overclocked, memory, vid card and cpu. All apps, games,
benchmarks and stress testers can loop endlessly, including Sandra Max
burn-in and error-free MemTest86 and Prime95, the toughest stability tests
around.

One game, and one game only, kicks me back to the desktop at the same
settings after an hour or two of play. Unfortunately I like Morrowind, and
so I reboot and drop the fsb from 275 to 260, where it runs without a
hiccup.

And 4mhz buys you what? when you're already at 400mhz?

A whopping 1% gain! Wow! I'm sure that's instantly noticeable.
