MEMORY COMPATIBILITY

brian

Hi.
I am building a P4 system.
I just ordered an ASRock M266A Motherboard, chipset VIA P4M266A.
I notice now that the supported memory speed for DDR memory is 266, so it
supports either PC1600 or PC2100.
However, I ordered 2 DDR PC2700 memory sticks.
Will the PC2700 memory work in the board? With the memory talk to the slower
memory bus speed?
I didn't receive the board yet. Should I not bother to even try the memory
and return the motherboard unopened?
Any advice or comments you can offer will be appreciated!
Thank you!

I have just assembled a system using with an Asrock MB (although it's an SIS
chipset) and I installed DDR333 along with a 1400MHz Duron (266FSB). The
machine was unstable with frequent crashes until I specified the memory to run
at 133/266 in the Bios to get it synchronous with the cpu. If you find you have
problems, you can do the same.

Motherboards aint that expensive, why not go for a slightly faster one?
But, yes, you should be able to run the faster memory at the slower speeds.
