Memory card readers dispappered

I have a SOny Vaio computer that is almost one year old. It has built in
Compact Flash, Memory Stick, and Smart Media readers. I have used the Smart
Media reader regularly for my camera card. Today, I went to use the Compact
Flash reader and none of the 3 reader appear in My Computer anymore. I
rebooted and they still did not show up. Rebooted again, and they were there
for a short time then disappeared before my eyes. What can I do?

These devices usually connect to either the USB header on the motherboard or
by a USB plug. Do you have any other USB devices? If so try unplugging
them and rebooting.

Does it appear in Device manager? Go to control panel, click on the system
icon, hardware tab then the Device manager button. If it does, delete it
and reboot. It should reinstall it.

If it still doesn't work, it could be a problem with the USB Controllers.
Again in device manager, you can delete them all, reboot and they should
reinstall.

There is nothing else plugged into the USB ports at this time. We
occasiona;y have a different camera plugged in or a Pcoket PC using Active
Sync. But they are not plugged in currently.
