Since you are getting the error on multiple applications, test your RAM.
I like Memtest86+ from www.memtest.org. Obviously, you have to get the
program from a working machine. You will either download the
precompiled Windows binary to make a bootable floppy or the .iso to
make a bootable cd. If you want to use the latter, you'll need to have
third-party burning software on the machine where you download the file
- XP's built-in burning capability won't do the job. In either case,
boot with the media you made. The test will run immediately. Let the
test run for an hour or two - unless errors are seen immediately. If
you get any errors, replace the RAM.

Also it can be a very badly infected machine. But it would really be good to know what is those **** before the .exe

Hi crispy_smith,
In addition to what Malke said, if you are confident with working inside
your computer, try removing the ram chips, clean the contacts with a pencil
eraser, wipe the contacts with alcohol (to remove eraser dust) and reinstall
the memory chips.

hi guys,
Thanks for the replies but....
here's where it gets really interesting.
This problem happens on different machines within our network.
I have just got a brand new video editing machine and it is now happening on
that machine too ( it's only a month old ! )

ideas ????

thanks heaps for the help.

It may be hardware, but if it does it on multiple machines; AND the machines
DO NOT give errors in other programs...I'd guess the software you are using
is defective.
