Meesage while opening a word file

Hi all,

I need some help please. I'm in charge of a PC Lab at school, and today a
student wanted to open a word document from her floppy disk, and when she
double-click on the file to open, she got a message on the screen that says
if she wanted to replace the existing file (according to her) and instead of
her cancelling that message she clicked on "replaced", and her document went
blank after that losing everything. In other words, all her work she had
typed up were gone. I haven't been able to duplicate this issue but I would
like to know what could have caused this message to come up in the first
place since she was opening for the first time from her floppy disk. Any
ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thahk you for your time. I apologize I
don't have too much details to give since this was based on what she told me.
Thanks again.

The short answer is: NEVER open a document directly from a floppy disk. Nor
save directly to floppy. It's a sure-fire way to wreck the document and
often the floppy also. This applies to RW CDs also.

Always work on a document on your hard disk. Use Windows Explorer to copy
the files to and from floppy.
