Media Type: Image or Slide Film?

When scanning slides on my Canon FS4000 with Vuescan, I get consistently
better results when I set Media Type to Image rather than to Slide Film.
In so doing, I lose the ability to select the film type - but the results
are better neverthess. Why is this so?

I dont know why...

But à asked the same question to this group some months ago about
Kodachrome slides and Nikon 4000ED scanner. And I got an answer from
Saint Ed Hamrick himself. He suggested me to set Media Type to Image
rather than To Slide. And when I asked him why, he answered "because
of a bug".

I don't know why either, but it worked for me. I had the same experience with
my Nikon 4000 and found this "solution" accidentally by resetting all the
VueScan settings to default and then only changing the ones I had to.
