Media player starting up on user login?

Viciii3

In the last 2 days Windows Media Player has started opening whenever
an XP user logs on. I've tried "System Restore"...none of my restore
points work (WTF????????). Tried removing WMP with the "Add/Remove"
Windows Components. WMP "removes" (LOL) but still starts at login and
runs any media files...???

What the heck is going on here???

1. Why is WMP opening at login?
2. Why aren't my restore points working??
3. Why doesn't the "remove Windows components" thingy really remove
WMP??????

My "wonderful" XP, with all it's built-in helpers...is not doing
crap to correct the problem?!?

The first person to mention a re-install of XP gets shot!

LOL!!

I can't find a setting anywhere in WMP "options" that would open it
on a user login.

Task Scheduler is disabled...has been since XP was installed last
year. I did check, though...no scheduled tasks are listed.

I managed to stop WMP from starting at user login...found a registry
entry in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Run for
WMP and removed the key.

Still not sure whats wrong with System Restore but I've disabled it
(to delete old restore points) and will re-enable it now that WMP is
fixed.

Still not sure why the add/remove Windows Components won't REALLY
remove WMP, but I think I saw something in the KnowledgeBase regarding
this.

Right on. I get sick of the amount of replies suggesting that. It's
better to find the cause of problems, fix and prevent them and we all
can learn from the process.

Glad you got that fixed. Please keep us informed on your progress with
the other issues.

Heh heh...it's never ending! I've got another problem (of course) now
that everything above has been "fixed" (no...I still don't know why
the stupid Restore would not work).

Oh well...another day...another thread.
