Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories and right-click
on the Command Prompt and choose "Run as administrator".
Type in: SFC /SCANNOW and press your Enter key.

If that does not work, try repairing your system. Boot from your Windows
Vista DVD, select the System Repair Option > on the setup screen, select
'Repair Computer > Select your installation of Windows > select Startup
Repair option and follow instructions.

I have Windows Vista Ultimate. I don't know what I did, but MediaPlayer will
not start. Media Center runs and plays music and videos just fine. It has
been awhile since I ran MediaPlayer so it might have been an update that
cuased the problem, but which one.

Thanks. I think I found it. I looked at the process in Task Manager, and
WMPLAYER.EXE was running. How? Why? I don't know, but after killing the
process, MediaPlayer is working properly.

I have Vista Home Premium and Media Center has stopped working. The program
name pointed to is ehshell.exe. Is this the correct filename or has a virus
changed the name? Is there a way to repair this problem without reinstalling
Vista ? Will the upcoming SP1 fix this? Allen
