Media Player Codec

There are certain video files (.avi) that when i try to
to play the media player tries to find a codec for it by
requesting one. The first few times it simply gave me an
error message saying it coulnd't get one. And now it
stays requesting for one for five minutes and then
continues with no video playing bu with audio. What do i
do, how do i make the video pop up? Thanks.

The quickest way to make the video work is to search this newsgroup for a
similar problem. This question is asked dozens of times every week and
you'd get your answer a LOT quicker just by spending a few seconds looking.

MS only provide their own codecs, or those they have under license, on their
codec server, all others must be downloaded from source. You can find out
which one you need by downloading a program call GSpot (do a google search
for it). Download & run it (it doesn't need installing) and drag your AVI on
to it. It will tell you what codec you need and you can then do a google
for it.

Odds are, though, that you need the DiVX codec which most pirate movie
content is encoded in. www.divx.com
