Media Player 11

I upgraded from XP Pro to Vista Business and have never been able to get WMP
11 working. I just get the 'Windows Media Centre has stopped working' screen.
Tried running it as Administrator, no luck. How can I reinstall it?

My prior version of XP WAS Professional (SP2)! If Vista Business doesn't have
WMP why is it that I cannot install previous versions of WMP as it tells me I
have the latest?

Windows Vista Business comes with Media Player 11, but it doesn't support
DVD play back. You might want to try reinstalling the OS, but doing an
in-place upgrade over the existing installation.

You are missing the point Andre. WMP 11 doesn't start at all, let alone play
DVD. I don't care about playing DVD, I just want WMP 11 to work.

Andre's confusion is understandable because in your original post you
actually refer to an error that mentioned Windows Media Centre. Does it
really say that or is that a typo?

Uh, your prior version of Windows XP was not Professional, its Media
Center Edition. You need to upgrade to appropriate version of Windows
Vista that supports Media Center, these are Home Premium and
Ultimate. Media Center is not a feature of Vista Business.

Hey Andre......Haven't seen you since....I think the SP2 beta group. I hope
you're keeping cool down there in the hot zone. :)

Grovelling apologies to all concerned. My frustration with this problem is
getting the better of me!
I should have said "Windows Media Player has stopped working". By the way I
clicked 'Check online for a solution' but no luck.

I'm sorry if there was a previous thread and I missed it but can you give me
some more information?

When did it work last? Did you install or change anything that might be
causing this? Can you restore the system back to when it worked?

Thanks, Ed

I was running XP Pro on SP2 and bought Vista Business Upgrade. Upgraded and
doenloaded numerous drivers for video card etc then tried WMP. Not working.
So, really, it has never worked and even restoring to before the updated
drivers doesn't fix it. Tried disabling my router firewall and even Vista
firewall but to no avail (that was a long shot).

So this happens when you open WMP all the time? Even just opening WMP
without trying to load a video or sound file at the same time? I'm wondering
about a codec or plugin that _really_ doesn't like Vista. At the moment I'm
struggling with DivX, which doesn't cause the problems you're seeing but
_is_ a real pain in the hoop none-the-less.

Is it launching and not playing or not even launching? Sorry I was so long
getting back to you.

Ed.

Additionally - if you get a message that says "Windows Media Player has
stopped working" - that should indicate a crash. If you go the Problem
Reports and Solutions center in the Start Menu under All Programs :
Maintenance, what details does it give you there about the crash? We're
specifically interested in the crash bucket number:

Thanks,

I can't seem to find anyone interested in it coming up and saying that I need
to adjust my screen resolution but nothing I do with the resolution helps.
I've asked here a couple of times and Googled but can't find anything
helpful.
