Hi Group,

Can I "upgrade" my Windows XP Media Center desktop to Windows XP Pro
version?

Thanks,

I think this is more of a downgrade not upgrade? I believe it is do able -
but you may have to look into the requirements for WinXPpro and see if it
meets your current system.

Why would you want to change your OS from MCE to WinXPpro in the first place?
Any reason why?

No. That would be a downgrade. Media Center is a superset of XP
Professional. It has everything that's in Professional (with one
exception--the ability to join a domain) plus additional features.

Unless you need the ability to join a domain, you would accomplish nothing
by downgrading, even if you could.

The only major reason to upgrade MCE to Pro is to get the possibility to join
a Windows server domain (and maybe IIS??) Other than that, MCP is basically
XP Pro.

In this case if you want to join the domain with my post stating earlier that
you need to make sure that your Hardware meets the requirements to install
WinXP pro. Also talk to your fellow sysadmin to make sure if it's ok to
dowgrade your MCE to WinXPpro, maybe your MCE is intended for something in
your office.

Transitioning from WinXP MCE to WinXP Pro is a _downgrade_.

WinXP Media Center Edition is a _superset_ (iow, it does
_everything_ WinXP Pro can do (except join a domain), plus contains
additional multi-media features) of WinXP Pro.
